Kahuku beach is a regular location for Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii beach cleanup efforts. Due to ocean currents and its position on the island it is a giant catchers mitt for marine based debris. When the crew arrived at the beach last Saturday the 27th a large dirty surprise lay await. Never before had any of us seen it so bad. Packed with debris! Attributing it to a record setting winter of large swells pushing up extra marine debris, the SCH crew never discouraged, simply got to work. Four hours later with 10,000 lbs of debris removed and 1000 lbs recycled, that section of coast was looking much better. Though a beach like Kahuku is a never ending effort.
